Although they just recently released on September 17, they have become an overnight worldwide phenomenon due to their exciting storyline. If you haven’t watched it yet, you definitely need to. It’s only a drama with 9 episodes but it is filled with suspense and bloodshed that will make you jump out of your seat. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game highlights a story where hundreds of players were confined to compete in deadly children’s games. With millions of money at stake, the players have to complete all of the six games for them to qualify for the next round. It stars  Lee Jung-Jae, Park Hae-soo and Wi Ha-jun. We try not to give spoilers too much, but it is not for the faint of heart. According to Ted Sarandos, Netflix CEO, Squid Game might just be the biggest show on the online platform. It highlights the ambitions of both Park Bo Gum and Byeon Woo Seo, as they wanted to make it as actors. Throughout the dramas, it involves some kind of romantic love with Park So-dam, a makeup artist that they befriended. It combines all the essential things we love in K-dramas, different social backgrounds, ambitions and love. It is definitely swoon-worthy certified. 

3.Lovers of the Red Sky

If you love historical drama, the Lovers of the Red Sky stars by Kim Yoo Jung and Ahn Hyo Sub should be on your next playlist. Set during the Joseon era, the story is about Hong Chun Gi, played by Kim Yoo Jung a talented artist that is accepted into Dohwaseo which is the Korean Royal Academy of Painting. Ha Ram played by Ahn Hyo Sub, is a chief at the astronomy department in Seowoongwan. Unknown to her, Ha Ram is her childhood friend that lost his eyesight after a ritual. The plot intensifies with the love triangle between Ha Ram, Chun Gi and Prince Yangmyung. So, do they manage to get back together? Well, you have to find out. 

4. Vicenzo

Released earlier this year, Vicenzo tells the story of Park Joo-Hyeong who was adopted by an Italian mafia. Led by Song Joong-Ki, he was forced to flee Italy and went back to his native country when the conflict between mafias erupted. Then he met Hong Cha-Young, an attorney played by Jeon Yeo-Bin and fell in love with her. With an 8.5 star rating on IMDb, it is one of the best Kdramas in 2021 that is worth watching.

5. Nevertheless

Indeed, this list of the best Kdramas to watch in 2021 would not be complete without the highly-rated Nevertheless. Available on Netflix, this drama series centres on the intense relationship between Park Jae-eon and Yoo Na-bi. It highlights the romantic yet toxic relationship that somehow evolves throughout time. Many of the Kdramas enthusiasts are so head over heels with this drama and we don’t blame them! The chemistry between Song Kang and Han Soo-hee seem surreal!

6. Taxi Driver

Taxi Driver is unlike any other crime Kdrama series. If you have been dying to see a bunch of bad guys get the taste of their own medicine, you need to watch this asap. Adapted from webtoon, it stars Lee Je Hoon, Esom and Pyo Ye Jin. They disguise themselves behind their work at the taxi company to conduct several so-called justice for the victims. With the failure to attain justice, they set on their own virtue to seek revenge. FYI, it also includes some martial arts skills showcase by Lee Je Hoon.

7. My Roommate is a Gumiho

If you want to sweep off your feet and laugh hysterically at the same time, My Roommate is a Gumiho is perfect for you. The story begins when Shin Woo-yeo met Lee Dam, a university student and fell in love. Well, unexpectedly, it turned out that  Shin Woo-yeo is actually a nine-tailed fox and  Lee Dam accidentally swallowed a bead belonging to Shin during a night out. Led by Jang Ki-Yong, he wanted to transform into a human and in order to do so, he needed to collect human energy. So, how do they find the ultimate solution to this problem? 

8. Sell Your Haunted House

Sell Your Haunted House centres around Hong Ji Ah, a real estate broker who has the ability to banish evil spirits. As an exorcist she works together with Oh in Bum, a swindler to remove ghosts and resell the property. The main plot intensifies when they investigate the reasons behind her mother’s sudden death. Well, it seems that their fate intertwined with each other as Oh in Bum has something to do with what happened 20 years ago. Directed by Park Jin-Suk, this series is led by Jang Na Ra and Jung Yong Hwa of CNBLUE

9. Youth of May

Set during the Gwangju Uprising, Youth of May tells the story of two lovers, played by Go Min Si and Lee Do Hyun. Hee Tae is a medical student at Seoul University who decided to open an illegal clinic after being persuaded by his friend, Kyung Soo. Then he met Myung Hee, a nurse during a meeting for an arranged marriage. They both end up falling for each other amidst the democratic turbulence. 

10. Beyond Evil

With an 8.2 star rating on IMDb, Beyond Evi sets the attention on two main characters, Lee Dong-Sik and Han Joo-Won. As detectives at a police station in the suburban area, their lives take a complete twist when a series of murders happen similarly to the case from 20 years ago. Once they start to unveil the crimes, they question each other’s innocence. So, who’s the real serial killer? A new detective in town? This Kdrama series is led by Shin Ha Kyun and Yeo Jin Goo. 

11. You Are My Spring

You Are My Spring is another best Kdramas to watch in 2021. Well, it is definitely suitable for everyone since it combines a mixture of crimes, romance, and even mystery. It tells a story about several neighbours, who witness a murder in their resident building. This Kdrama is cast by a list of well-known actors, including Seo Hyun Jin, Kim Dong Wook, Yoon Park and Nam Gyu Ri.
