James Quan and Winnie Chan, a husband-and-wife team, created Bynd Artisan in 2014. Winnie’s grandpa, who founded Singapore’s oldest bookbindery in the 1940s, launched their ateliers, which are an experiential retail concept that personalised paper and leather items. Bynd Artisan is more than simply a shop that sells personalised stationery; it’s also a community of artisans and partners.

They’ve done so by collaborating with Singaporean artists like Erwin Lian and indigenous designer Larry Peh to create unique, immersive experiences within their ateliers. With five locations throughout the island, this hardworking duo hopes to make Bynd Artisan a household name in Singapore.

Winnie joined the graphics department because she was interested in colours and aesthetics. Her goal was to make the items more aesthetically pleasing. Winnie chose to leave her position at Grandluxe in 2016 after 22 years on the job and two years after founding Bynd Artisan to focus solely on Bynd Artisan. Winnie’s current position is in charge of the retail part of the company.

She is the one who is in charge of finding new collaborators. She’s also the one who thinks of innovative ways to lure consumers to the store. The cooperation with Sunday Folks, for example, is their first F&B relationship, bringing together two popular Singaporean businesses in a single retail location.

James, on the other hand, works with business customers and handles corporate gifts, such as organisations who want to personalise notebooks for their employees or clients. He’s also in charge of customised initiatives, which might include the development of a whole new product category.
