5. Tour Around The Istana Besar 

The sumptuous Istana Besar, built in 1866, is the state’s Grand Palace and was originally the abode of the Sultan of Johor. The edifice is a stunning combination of Malay and Western structural traditions, and it sticks out with its stark white facade and striking blue roof. Today, it is mostly occupied for formal ceremonies, with a portion of it turned into the Royal Abu Bakar Museum, which houses a gallery of Royal Family antiquities and treasures.

There is an entryway here covered with a giant figure of the Sultan’s crown, and you can also see the groomed grounds from the outside.
