Good food with good ambience = heaven on earth
By: Aqilah Najwa Jamaluddin / September 16, 2021

Hoorah! Let’s give a toast to the fact that we can—slowly—dine out, and return to normalcy once again. After months of spending and stucking at home, we’re surely getting bored with all the at-home foods that we keep repeating over and over again, though some of you are creative enough to come up with new recipes and try out new dishes—stepping out of your comfort zones. Cheers to you!

However, for some of us who are so over ‘’lockdown food’’ long ago, we admitted that even though we’re blessed to be provided with food and delivery apps, let’s face it, delivery food and ‘’real food’’ that have been served at the restaurants are truly different vibes. There’s just something extraordinary about sitting across from your loved ones, with good ambience, interesting conversation and hella good foods, ugh, heaven on earth. Oh, and before we forget, as much as we’re enjoying this celebration please don’t forget to practice safe distancing measures. Make sure the place is wholly sanitized before you place your bookings, alright?

So with that being said, Glitz by Beauty Insider helped to narrow down 10 of the best good places in Singapore that serve good food, with heavenary ambience, for you to enjoy the freedom to dine outside, once again. Cheers!

1. Odette Restaurant

Oouh, okay, we are starting off very very classy on the list. Even looking at the restaurant’s interior design is enough to make us drool. This ever so high class restaurant is housed at the Singapore’s National Gallery, also known as one of the most prestigious buildings in the country. The restaurant is led by none other than  chef Julian Roer’s, prioritizing French cuisine—and best believe that every food was made with a purpose, there’s a story behind every recipe. All those white and neutral tones will make you feel like you’re dining straight from heaven.

2. Cicheti Restaurant

Even though some of you have already picked up the skills of baking pizza at home during lockdown time, sometimes a good pizza made by experts—with fresh dough shaping from the scratch—is all what you need. Introducing Cicheti, pronounced ‘’Chi-Keh-Tee’’, is a restaurant that offers an overall Italian cuisine. So yes, expect finger licking pizzas with various toppings to choose from, a good selection of pastas, narrow down to its sweet, heavenly desserts like truffle, crack pie and others. We love it.

3. Candlenut

Shifting gears, let’s change our taste bud, shall we? Let us introduce you to Candlenut; the world’s first peranakan restaurant to be granted a Michelin Star Award, thanks to its lead chef, Malcolm Lee. He decided to brough in his heritage and years of experience in culinary to deliver the best arrays of creations that represent the Straits Chinese dishes. Most of his recipes also were passed down through his family, such as ‘’Yeye’’, his grandfather’s curry. According to the reviews, if you drop by this restaurant, make sure to opt for Bakwan Kepiting, a chicken broth added along next to crab and pork balls, with sliced bamboo shoots and buah keluak curry. You’ll be stunned!

Still under Asian cuisine, but with a different ambience. Here at Avenue 87, the setting is more towards laid back and openness, as opposed to classy and luxury. However, the arrays of foods are surely jaw-dropping—all Asian cuisine were created with a slight contemporary twist, mixing the good ole’ recipe onto a face of modernity. For example, you’ll be greeted with familiar ingredients like octopus and sea bass but mixing with the latest ingredients that you’d never imagine would exist. If you’re having a celebration, we suggest you go for their six-course dinner with wine for an ultimate experience.

5. Katong Laksa

Who doesn’t love a good laksa? Especially if it were made just like our ancestors. If you’re a big fan of laksa, (like me), you will fall in love with this tiny laksa spot in Ceylon Road. Their laksa noodles were cut into small pieces that you can even scoop them with a spoon, topped with such creamy, coconutty, ever lightly spicy gravy. Oh, even describing it makes me drooly already. But that’s not all though, if you’re not into laksa, you can give their fish otah or the best one yet? Of course, Asian favourite: Nasi lemak.

Looking for a steak to fill your tummy? Look no further than The Feather Blade. The steakhouse really differs from the other basic steakhouse out there; the name came from the flat iron beef that was cut from the side of the shoulders, or better known as feather blade, thus the restaurant was born. And best believe that every inch of dishes were made and infused with such strong flavours and ingredients that turn your heads around. Literally touching every side of your taste buds. A good flavoury beef steak paired with martini on the side—this is what bliss looks like.
