Helmed by Simu Liu, Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings tells a story of a man who was forced to reconnect with his past when he encounter the Ten Rings organization. If that sounds familiar to you, it’s because the same organization was the culprit who kidnap Tony Stark in the Iron Man.

Among the list of the cast that star in this movie includes, Simu Liu as Shang Chi, Tony Leung as Wenwu, Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, Awkwafina as Katy, Ronny Chieng as Jon Jon, Florian Munteanu as Razor Fist, Fala Chen as Jiang Li, Meng’er Zhang as Xialing and Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery. The Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings has definitely outperformed their expectation as the film successfully recorded $400 million grossing as of earlier this week. In fact, they are the first film release during the pandemic that managed to hit the $200 million box office. Apart from accumulating a total of $100 million in sales in just five days after the first release, the Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings has been ranked on the first spot for four consecutive weeks.

Needless to say, the film has been breaking record after record, and they are totally unstoppable. Particularly in Singapore, Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings ranked in the first spot during the first opening of the instalment. Based on the Rotten Tomatoes rating, the film scored 92% review and 98% for audience score. Whereas for IMDb rating, it earned 7.9 stars out of 10 from 107k reviewers. On the contrary, the movie managed to garner a 4/5 rating from Common Sense Media.

Simu Liu has tweeted to Marvel before about Asian-American hero

Well, it’s definitely a sign from heaven, aren’t they? In case you haven’t heard, Simu Liu has actually tweeted to Marvel way back in 2014 and 2018, requesting an Asian-American superhero. We are not sure if it’s a prophecy or not but in 2019, Marvel actually announced him as the lead actor for the film during the San Diego Comic-Con. If you’re curious, the tweets didn’t actually help him to land the role. It was verified by the film’s producer, Kevin Feige and he stated that he never saw Liu’s tweets. Unless, the casting director did, which we would never know!

Awkwafina learned archery and drift

As a way to prepare for her role in the movie as Katy, Awkwafina actually learned new skills including drift. In case you forgot, there’s a scene where Katy and Shaun were attacked by assassins on a bus. Then Shaun instructed his friend to take control of the wheel. According to Awkwafina, she went to a race track to learn this new skill set. On top of that, she also learned archery. These new skills will absolutely look marvellous on her resume.

The character is modeled after Bruce Lee

In the comic, the lead character is actually modelled after Bruce Lee, the legendary martial arts artist. Paul Gulacy, an artist decided to take inspiration from Lee when he drafted the comic in 1974. If you’re one of those lucky people who owned the comic, you can see that the result is uncanny.

Simu Liu is a multitalented artist

If you have been following Simu Liu on social media, you will know that he is a multitalented singer. In fact, the actor can also play various musical instruments including guitar and piano. But did you know that he sings for one of the soundtracks in Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings? Indeed, it was the Hot Soup.

No one was expecting to see Ben Kingsley

There’s not even the slightest drop of hint that Ben Kingsley will return to the screen as Trevor Slattery in Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings. People only knew about it when he was seen at the world premiere back on August 16. According to Kingsley, Kevin Feige the film’s producer paid him a visit to secretly discuss his role in the movie.
