The Best Time to Experience Autumn Leaves in Korea

Autumn in Korea occurs between September and late November. Aside from the crisp golden foliage, you may also anticipate a delightful mild weather (approximately 20°C). However, the finest months to view the fall leaves in Korea are between October and November, with the peak season lasting only two weeks.

1. Nami Island

Nami Island is well-known for its scenic beauty all year, but especially in fall. This is one of the most beautiful sites in Korea to watch fall foliage, with tree-lined avenues flanked with enormous metasequoia and golden gingko. There’s something for everyone here, as it’s renowned as a family-friendly eco-park as well as an intimate day-trip destination. A day excursion to Nami Island and the Garden of Morning Calm may be combined for a fantastic day of fall foliage watching.

2. Seoul Forest Park 

When it comes to annual flowers and greenery, Seoul Forest Park is a must-see. The park is draped with stunning, powdered pink cherry blossom blossoms in the spring, and the length of gingko trees is ideal for fall leaf watching. The Seoul Woodland Park has several attractions, including a Culture & Art Park, forest playing areas, and a waterfront marina area, making it a beautiful and peaceful destination for both locals and tourists. Prepare food, find a good site, and take in the scenery while enjoying a picnic with your loved ones.

3. Bukhansan National Park

Are you up for a gorgeous fall foliage hike? Bukhansan National Park is the ideal location. This nature reserve, which encompasses both the Bukhansan and Dobongsan Mountains, includes several paths and vistas of steep peaks bathed in red, yellow, and golden foliage. Visitors may take the Scenic Valley Trail or the Main Road Trail, while those wanting for a tougher challenge can climb to Baegundae Peak for a breathtaking bird’s-eye perspective of the whole park.

4. Changdeokgung Palace & Secret Garden

Changdeokgung Palace & Secret Garden was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and is one of the best-preserved Joseon-era structures. Enjoy the expansive landscapes with picturesque structures and lakes coloured in red and gold – it’s definitely a beautiful sight. Lease a hanbok, which is available for both men and women, and have your photos shot against the gorgeous background of the castle and fall foliage for a joyful and unforgettable session.

5. Seoul Olympic Park

When it comes to spectacular fall foliage, Seoul Olympic Park would be another must-see. This sprawling park takes more than three hours to explore and is divided into many sections, which included a Leisure Sports Park, Cultural Art Park, Environmental Eco-Park, and History Experience Park devoted to the area’s rich historical legacy. The parkland is really created on the site of the almost 2,000-year-old Mongchontoseong Fortress. You may also tour the big park on a bicycle, which can be readily rented at the bicycle rental store located between the SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium and the Woori Art Hall.

6. Incheon Grand Park

Admire the stunning fall leaf panoramas in Incheon Grand Park, which is flanked by Gwanmosan Mountain and Sangasan Mountain. For the greatest leaf views, go to Maple Tree Tunnel. In addition to the expansive garden grounds, Incheon Park is home to various amenities such as a Children’s Zoo, making it an excellent destination to visit if you’re vacationing with kids.

7. Garden of Morning Calm

The Garden of Morning Calm, which includes 20 designated areas interlinked by gorgeous walkways, portrays the splendour of Korean horticulture against the background of Chungryeongsan Mountain. When it comes to Garden of Morning Calm, the term “magnificent” is an understatement. Though breathtaking in any season, the fall colours really add to the enchantment of this site.

8. Hongcheon Ginkgo Forest

The Hongcheon Ginkgo Forest, which is more popular among residents than visitors, is host to almost 2,000 yellow ginko trees, giving it a beautiful sight in fall. However, this park is privately owned and only available in October. So make sure to verify your visit with the Hongcheon County Office before going.

9. Bomun Lake

A quick fact check: Bomun Lake was man-made.  This location is popular with visitors due to the cherry blossoms near Bomunho Lake and Bulguksa Temple in April and the fall foliage in October. Apart from walking around the grounds, there are also bike rental outlets nearby the lake. You may also charter a duck boat and kayak around the lake for a fresh outlook.

10. Naejangsan National Park

Who can resist a walk through this stunning national park? A day spent at Naejangsan National Park is perhaps the closest you’ll get to experiencing your favourite K-Drama. Naejangsan National Park is a must-see for fall foliage in Korea, so if you only have room for one place on your schedule, make it this one.  Other popular attractions inside the national park include Dodge Okpokpo Falls and Geum Seon Pokpo Falls, as well as the Baekyangsa Temple and Naejangsa Temple.

11. Juwangsan National Park

The majestic Juwangsan Mountain, which is nestled in the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range, can be found in Juwangsan National Park. Discover the many walking routes and marvel at the magnificent scenery of steep cliffs, gaping valleys, rivers, and caves abounding. The Jeolgolgyegok Valley and Jusanji Pond are two excellent places to see the autumn foliage.
