Kipling Partners With Three Creatives To Launch Special Edition Art Tote Bags

In conjunction of International Women's Day
By: Agnes / March 1, 2022

International Women’s Day honours women’s cultural, social, political, and economic achievements around the world. Every year, Kipling comes up with a new and inventive way to honour International Women’s Day. To reinvent its famous Art Tote Bag, Kipling collaborated with three prominent female creatives. To commemorate Kipling’s legendary Art’s 30th anniversary, the women poured their hearts and souls into making their own renditions of the Art Tote Bag. Here at Glitz, we bring you the exclusive behind the scenes.

Meet The Women

Kipling’s commitment to environmental sustainability is demonstrated by the use of recycled or deadstock materials. Marylou, a London-based artist, Jessica, a New York-based sweet shop owner, and Grace, a Hong Kong-based knit designer, collaborated to create their own ethically produced Art Tote that reflects what it means to be a female creative. Each Art creation brings the designers’ concept of female empowerment to life.

1. Marylou

Bold colours and geometric compositions are used in Marylou’s character designs to create a sense of freedom and amusement. Her patterns are printed on nylon that is produced entirely of recyclable materials. Marylou aspires to bring happiness and joy to the world after the pandemic. When people see her work, she wants them to remember what life was like before the pandemic, when everyone could be together.

2. Jessica

Jessica’s entrepreneurial career began when she found she could make rice crispy treats by adding food colouring to the recipe on the side of the Rice Krispies cereal box. Jessica began making masterpieces out of Rice Krispies as a side venture, which quickly turned into a company. Her art is based on her colourful and amusing rice crispy treat artwork. The two-dimensional flowers protrude from the bag, giving it depth. Better yet, the textured nylon base is composed entirely of recyclable material.

3. Grace

Grace was introduced to Kipling’s Design Team through the Redress organisation, a non-profit dedicated to transforming textile waste into a circular economy. They collaborate with young designers to educate them on responsible design approaches. Grace’s knit designs are inspired by Hong Kong’s stunning scenery. Grace’s design is brought to life by the patterns and colours reflected in her Art bag’s quilting and webbing. Grace has a unique design that includes a removable front pocket that converts to a crossbody bag, an interior laptop sleeve, and a false bottom that rises up to provide a divider for the large compartment.

Limited-Edition Art Tote Bag

Each artwork conveys a unique tale while conveying the same message: to be your true self. The three women expressed their own tales through each Art Tote Bag, tying into Kipling’s purpose: to lighten your step, fuelling your curiosity to travel your own route. Kipling is honoured to provide a platform for these exceptionally bright women to demonstrate their abilities.

Kipling cultivates a welcoming atmosphere that encourages people to be themselves. The 30th anniversary of Art’s inception, as well as the craft and passion of three female creatives’ concepts coming to life, is a wonderful occasion to commemorate International Women’s Day.

Support International Women’s Day by purchasing a limited-edition Art Tote Bag, which will be available on March 1, 2022, at all Kipling shops, the LAZADA concierge shopping service, and on WhatsApp at 6634 3200.
